After serving as the pastor of the Startup Church for seven years, Leonard Klein retired to join his wife Aldine, his son Martin (both registered nurses), and Martin's wife Janelle (a nurse practitioner), to establish a health retreat in the Northwest.
After serving as the Zambezi Union publishing director in Zimbabwe, Africa, Klein came to the Washington Conference in 1988. When the Washington Conference publishing department closed in 1991, he and his family started a senior adult care center in their home. Says Aldine, "We felt that we could give at least a few people a place to live that was more like their own home." In 1995 a friend from Colorado encouraged them to build a larger home near the medical complex in Monroe. So Alder Siesta was born to house 16 grand-folks.
Since starting that ministry, more than 100 seniors from every denominational background have been taken in and loved by Aldine and Leonard. Leonard found it very rewarding to baptize a wheelchair-bound gentleman, to accept others into the family of God by profession of faith, and to be asked by adult children to conduct the funerals for their parents.
Recently Leonard and Aldine opened another unit on the same property, a health retreat in a bed and breakfast format. They invite people to make at least a one-night stop at their facility upon leaving the city for skiing, mountain vacations, or driving trips. Extended stays for rest and recovery are also being offered. They have planned three-day, 10-day, and 22-day health restoration programs.
The delicious heart-healthy cuisine, comfortable accommodations, and peaceful atmosphere provide a soothing backdrop and environment for rest, learning, and healing. The facility is handicap-friendly.
They are offering a chance to find rest, hope, and healing from debilitating and life-threatening diseases, and offer an array of therapies, activities, and education based upon the largest scientific studies available that are specifically designed to restore and preserve health.
