Anchorage Celebrates the Advent

By Ken Crawford, Ken Crawford, February 11, 2014

Ellen White notes, “We are living in an important and eventful age. We are almost home. Soon the many mansions that our Saviour has gone to prepare, will burst upon our sight. Let us shake off the stupor that oppresses us. Let us study the Bible more, that we may know for ourselves the great landmarks we are passing. We need deeper draughts from the well of Bethlehem, that we may refresh our own souls and refresh others” (Signs of the Times, May 29, 1884).

In response to such clear direction, a timely coordinated Christmas effort by Anchorage City churches celebrated the advent season with music, plays and narration.

The audience watched several baptisms and sang Christmas carols. The highlight of the advent commemoration was several baptisms by area pastors. The program was followed by a time of fellowship and appreciation to the participants, in keeping with White's advice, "Through the story of Bethlehem and the cross let it be shown how good is to conquer evil, and how every blessing that comes to us is a gift of redemption" (Lift Him Up, p. 255).
