Learning to Live Life Longer at Village Church

By Mary Lou Tillay, April 13, 2015

A fellowship hall in the College Place (Wash.) Village Church filled with people interested in learning how to live life longer with better health and enjoy it more. Jim and Neva Brackett had the full attention of the audience for the weekend seminars and vegan cooking that took place March 7–9. Saturday afternoon, attendees got to enjoy learning about God’s creation of DNA and how health is related to their genes. Sunday, a vegan meal was served followed by an informational seminar.

The final presentation on Monday evening was full of a variety of vegan samples made by Neva Brackett, Seven Secrets Cookbook author. Her recipes are not only delicious, but they are nutritious as well. She and her husband, Jim, own the Wildwood Lifestyle Program in Georgia. For more information about their program, call 800-634-9355.

The Village Church has long been teaching messages of health and wellness. Jeff Kinne, Village Church pastor, has given his support for planning events and programs centered around health. Village Church members believe that God has called each and every one is called to care for physical and mental health. Exercise, proper nutrition, water for hydration, sunlight and nature — they all tie in to the message of full devotion to a life in Christ. Temperance is one of the most important aspects to a healthy lifestyle as well.

The Village Church supports a health and wellness ministry team and groups such as Best Weigh and CHIP (Complete Health Improvement Program). The church will be presenting the 2015 Walla Walla Health Expo May 15 and 16, featuring Fred Hardinge, a certified health education specialist and registered dietitian serving as General Conference associate health ministries director. The theme this year, "Optimize: Eat Strong, Feel Whole, Think Up,” includes local speakers, health screenings, panel discussions and healthy meals. It will be a great way to bring the community together and share the good news and health message.

Later on this year, Neil Nedley will come the weekend of Nov. 21 for his second visit to Village Church. For updates of the church's events, visit villageadventist.org or like its Facebook page, facebook.com/CollegePlaceVillageChurch.
