The North Pacific Union Conference (NPUC) nominating committee overwhelmingly voted Aug. 17 to recommend that NPUC constituency delegates invite John Freedman to replace Max Torkelsen as NPUC president. Torkelsen will retire at the end of September. Pending Freedman’s acceptance, this recommendation will be voted on by delegates at the NPUC constituency session Sept. 25 in Portland, Ore.
John Freedman has served as president of the Washington Conference, currently headquartered in Federal Way, Wash., since 2002. Prior to his current role, he spent three years as the conference ministerial and evangelism director and another year as vice president for administration. His extensive experience as a pastor includes churches in New Jersey, Colorado and California.
In related actions, the nominating committee also recommended that delegates at the session invite incumbents John Loor Jr., executive secretary, and Mark Remboldt, treasurer, to continue to serve in those positions. Loor has been NPUC executive secretary since 2010. Remboldt has been with the NPUC since 2005, serving as treasurer since 2008.
The NPUC nominating committee is made up of the executive committee and several additional members elected by their local conference executive committees. The Aug. 17 meeting was chaired by Dan Jackson, North American Division (NAD) president. Alex Bryant, NAD executive secretary, and Tom Evans, NAD treasurer, were also present at the meeting.
