David McCoy, Fall Creek (Ore.) Church pastor for the last 15 years, is a Texas boy, and you may still hear a trace of his history in his accent. He worked in the construction trades prior to attending seminary and is truly a man of the people.
Under the leadership of McCoy, this small, rural church is contributing to the physical, social, behavioral and spiritual health of the larger community.
A number of community events have been held in the Fall Creek Event Center, owned and operated by the church, including:
- A free veterans' oral health clinic held in a large dental office built into a cargo container by Western Shelter Systems, which is transported to various locations in Oregon, including Astoria and Bend, plus overseas to provide free oral health to veteran and others;
- A Kid’s Club providing activities for young children;
- A Soup Social Supper held each Friday, to which all are invited;
- A weekly Tuesday afternoon study on religious issues of interest to women;
- Regular monthly community church services hosted by 20-somethings and teens.
McCoy offered the invocation for the legislators and staff of the Oregon House of Representatives on May 22, 2017. Following his prayer for successful governance, he was recognized by Representative Cedric R. Hayden, a member of the Fall Creek Church, under the courtesies portion of the session. A floor letter describing his ministry was distributed to the desks of each of the 60 legislators.
Later in the day, McCoy testified in favor of House Bill 2591, sponsored by Representative Hayden, before the Senate Committee on Rules in favor of the Williams Syndrome Awareness Month, which designates each May as an awareness month. The bill passed the Senate Rules Committee unanimously and headed to the Senate floor for further action.
