Sonscreen Film Festival held their annual event on the campus of La Sierra University in Riverside, Calif., April 4–6, 2019. The film festival, in their 18th year, attracted their largest audience with over 200 professional and student guests.
Sonscreen, sponsored by the North American Division (NAD) communication department, seeks to provide a place for young Christian filmmakers to share their passion for the arts and network with professionals. The festival gives students, from high school to college, a chance to submit films and be inspired by what others are doing through the creative arts.
This year there were over 95 film submissions, a record in the festivals history, which were narrowed down to nearly 60 for official selection and review by the audience.
The Northwest was well represented with numerous Walla Walla University (WWU) students, both in attendance and in films shown at the festival.
Car Treble, a partnership film between the Associated Students of Walla Walla University and AFTER95 Creative, won Honorable Mention in the Dramatic Short category, as well as winning the Jury Selection Award. The film was written by WWU students Noah Dauncey, Clayton Kruse and Jared Jamieson, and directed by Kruse.
