Unless you have been living in a cave on a deserted island, you know the trying times our world is in right now. Amazing Grace Academy’s school board, after many hours of researching the pros and cons of reopening, developed a successful plan for in-person and distancing learning.
The school, located in Palmer, Alaska, created a strategy for blending the vital need of hands-on learning and being part of a fellowship with being prudent for the safety of students and families. And for those that are more comfortable at home, AGA created aHome Learning Program. The school was informed by the Department of Public Health that its sanitation and mitigation plan far exceeded that of public schools and other private schools in the state.
AGA has always been at the forefront of giving back to the community it serves, and this year was no exception. The academy continues to partner with Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a nonprofit organization that builds beds for both locally disadvantaged youth and for those in Alaskan villages. A great way to be ready for school is to get a good nights sleep in one's own bed.
With Thanksgiving right around the corner, the school's annual Feed the Need program is expected to be in high demand. Feed the Need partners with local food banks and farms to collect and deliver complete Thanksgiving dinners to about 40 local families. Due to the coronavirus this year, students will most likely not be able to deliver personally but will make sure the meals get to families in need.
