Winter Fellowship Helps at Camp Tukuskoya

By Jerilyn Burtch, April 17, 2021

After many months with squirrels left alone to frolic in the lodge rafters, moose free to meander around quiet cabins and loons to cry on Flat Lake, human guests crossed the ice road and parked their vehicles by the boat dock at Camp Tukuskoya, located north of Anchorage, Alaska. They built a bonfire by the lake and a fire in the lodge fireplace and cranked up the heaters. The lodge was filled with music by socially distanced violinists, guitarists and keyboard artists playing vespers songs. Children ice skated, sledded and roasted hot dogs. Social committee members served cider and cocoa to guests from across Anchorage and the Mat-Su Valley.

About 15 people from five families camped in the lodge. Some of them got up early to circumnavigate the lake by dog sled or heavily tractioned running shoes before tackling camp improvements. One group piled brush for the wood chipper to cover muddy areas this spring. Another framed the partition for our newest cabin, Eagle/Polar Bear. A third group completed the wallboard installation and began painting living quarters for our first one-man mission trip camp ranger this summer.

Join with us in prayer as we design financially and logistically viable ministry opportunities for the summer of 2021. Now more than ever, we are grateful to provide a setting where campers can experience Christ in His great outdoors.
