Ashamed No More

By Vidal Mendoza, December 19, 2022

As a young girl born and raised in Ecuador, Nelly attended the Adventist church with her parents. But as the years went by, she attended less and less frequently. When she was all grown up, Nelly moved to the U.S. where she met and started dating Jonathan. Nelly started praying to God because she wanted to go back to church but didn't know how or where to go. According to Nelly, she was ashamed to return to the church after being away for so long.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, we at the Federal Way Hispanic Church began giving away food to the community every Sunday. We visited Hispanic neighborhoods to give away food and offer help for whatever people needed.

One Sunday, we visited Nelly's house, and when she found out we were Seventh-day Adventist, she began to cry and said, "Thank you, God. You heard my prayer." We didn't know why she was crying so we asked her and she told us everything. We immediately began to study the Bible with her and Jonathan.

Cesar Monterrosa and his wife, Nancy, visited them every week to study the Bible. For the honor and glory of our God, they decided to get married and then give their lives to Jesus through baptism. Today, they attend our church every Sabbath and are preparing to be small group leaders. They have a desire to help young people like them to learn about Jesus and have a saving relationship with Him. Praise be to our God!
