Emerald City Church Provides Health Care Outreach to Central Seattle

By David McClelland, June 23, 2019

For five hours on Sunday, March 17, 2019, six nonprofit organizations provided valuable health information and services to church members and the public in the Emerald City Community Seventh-day Adventist Church fellowship hall at 25th Avenue and East Columbia Street in central Seattle, Wash.

In addition to getting blood pressure checks and cholesterol screenings, participants were able to get information on available food, housing, utility and immigration assistance as well as help to schedule appointments for primary medical care, dental care and behavioral health services. HIV testing was provided, and a mobile van was set up outside for mammogram screenings.

Those without health insurance were assisted in signing up for Medicare, Medicaid and subsidized private health programs. Information on aging and disability services including meals, transportation, health and wellness, and assistance for family caregivers was also provided.

This health fair was a great success, and the Emerald City community outreach team is looking forward to many more opportunities to serve the interests and needs of the neighborhood surrounding the church.
